PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's tennis team have a crucial pair of games as they end their regular season attempting to get into the Empire 8 conference playoffs. The Cardinals currently sit in fifth place and need to get into the top-4 if they want to play post-season tennis. They begin with a 1 p.m. match at home against Houghton College, before traveling to Medaille College for a 1 p.m. season finale on Sunday.
Playoff Hunt: The Cardinals have a 2-3 conference record and are looking up at Alfred University at 3-2 and a two-way tie for second between Nazareth College and Houghton College who both hold a 4-1 record. Fisher can potentially finish as high as third with two wins, two Highlander losses and if the Saxons go 1-1. Either way, Fisher will need to win both matches in order to have a chance, as Alfred holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Scoreboard watching: If the Cardinals handle business, they will have an eye on Alfred who will be playing first place Hartwick College on Saturday and sixth place Russell Sage College. Houghton will host the Golden Flyers on Saturday, before taking on Fisher in what can be a deciding match.
