PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team will take on Oswego State on Tuesday, Oct. 4 before traveling to Pennsylvania for an Empire 8 matchup against Washington and Jefferson College on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Fisher (3-7, 3-1 Empire 8) enters the week in third place in the conference behind Houghton (8-2, 4-0 Empire 8) and Hartwick (4-4, 3-0 Empire 8). Washington and Jefferson College (3-6, 2-2 Empire 8) sits in fifth place.
The Cardinals flexed their muscles on Friday night, defeating Medaille with 11 goals from five different Cardinals. The Lakers are 6-4 on the season and have dropped four of their last five games.
Scouting the Opponents: The Cardinals have a seven-game win streak against Oswego dating back to 2014. Last season, Fisher beat Oswego 3-2, as
Audrey Grieb provided assists on two goals, and
Gianna Palma scored a goal of her own. Fisher totaled 36 shots, 21 of which were on goal, compared to Oswego who only managed 10 shots, six of which were on goal.
Fisher has won two straight against Washington and Jefferson College, not allowing a goal since 2018. In the 39th minute of last season's contest,
Emma Cooper rebounded her own shot and passed it to
Grieb, who scored the second of two goals for the Cardinals in the 2-0 win.
Player to Watch: This week's player to watch is
Gianna Palma. Palma ranks first on the team in shots (34) and is tied for second on the team in shots on goal (17) behind
Emma Cooper (23). Palma also ranks second on the team in assists (4). Last week's player to watch was
Grieb and she finished the week with three goals and seven points on seven shots, six of which came on goal. The three-goal performance against Medaille represented career highs in shots, shots on goals, and goals in a single game.
Palma has totaled 13 shots, seven of which have been on goal over her last three games. Against Medaille, the fifth year scored her third goal of the season. Expect scoring opportunities for Palma.
