PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team prepares for the final two games of the season, which are set to take place at Keuka College on Wednesday, Oct. 26 and at Elmira College on Saturday, Oct. 29. Both matchups are conference games and could have implications on the final regular season standings.
The Cardinals enter the week with a 6-2-6 record, leading the Empire 8 with a 4-0-3 record in conference play. Keuka has gone 2-7-5, with a 0-4-3 record in the conference and Elmira has played to a 6-8-2 record, including a 1-5-2 record in conference matchups.
Scouting the Opponents: When Fisher met Keuka last season, a four-point second half propelled the Cardinals to the 4-0 victory. In the win,
Kate Rachwal scored her first career goal while
Emma Spelman and
Kayla Rhude each tallied a pair of shots. Fisher also enters the week winners of five-straight against Elmira, including a 4-0 win last season. In the victory, Isabella Guarracino was able to punch in her second goal of the season and
Tori Cruz connected on her third goal on a feed from
Emma Osterhoudt.
No Sophomore Slump: The Empire 8 Rookie of the Year last season, Spelman, has begun to hit stride as the regular season comes to a close. Spelman has started in all 14 games this year, racking up two goals and two assists. Over her last four, Spelman has 10 shots, six of which have been on goal. Her goal at Medaille on Oct. 15 marked her first game-winner of the season.
Player to Watch: Jenn Kirker is the player of the week to watch. Kirker is tied for first on the team in goals (3) and ranks first in points (8). The two assists for the senior ties her for second on the team in that category as well. Two of the three goals from Kirker have come this month.
