PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team will prepare for two final home games this week, playing Elmira College on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and Russell Sage Saturday, Oct. 22. Fisher enters the week with a 5-9 overall record and have gone 4-2 in Empire 8 games. Both Elmira and Russell Sage hold 0-11 records, as they look for their first win of the season. The Cardinals are tied for third place in the conference, behind Hartwick and Houghton, and tied with Utica.
Scouting the Rivals: Fisher has bested Elmira in nine straight, dating back to 2012. When Fisher met Elmira last season,
Audrey Grieb scored in the 35th minute, and
Abby Richardson scored in the 54th minute to seal the 4-0 victory. In the win, Fisher had 35 shots compared to 3 for Elmira.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals overwhelmed Russell Sage last season, beating them 7-0, their third consecutive win over the Gators. In the win,
Gianna Palma tallied a goal and an assist, while
Molly Fisher also scored a goal.
Fisher did not allow a single shot, while they finished with 34.
Celebrating Seniors: Palma and Richardson will be recognized prior to the final home game of the season on Saturday. Over five season, Palma has started all 80 games she has played in, recording 31 goals and 28 assists while playing 5005 minutes. Palama ranks fifth in programmatic history in points, goals and points/game. Richardson has played in 33 games, starting 18. She has recorded two goals and an assist over her four years, tallying over 1645 minutes played.
Player to Watch: Fisher is this week's player to watch, as the sophomore from Webster has paced the team in goals (10) and points (21). The offensive leader ranks fifth in the Empire 8 conference in goals.
Fisher has recorded a goal in two of the last three games, racking up 10 shots, six of which have been on goal. Fisher will look to surpass her season high 11 goals, which she set last season with a strong offensive week.
