BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team continued to receive recognition following the 2021 season as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its All-Region Teams on Monday with
Bre Socker,
Alyssa Andres and freshman
Selena Emery each being among the 32 honorees from Region III.
Socker's selection comes as no surprise as the Liverpool native was among the top players in Division III this season. Socker, who was also named First-Team All-Conference by the Empire 8 earlier this month, earned her second straight Empire 8 Player of the Year honor after leading the conference in points with 46 over 20 games played.
A National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American in 2019, Socker, who was selected to play in the Division III Senior Game last week, ranked first among all players in the conference with 140 shots and was second in the league in goals (18) and game-winning goals with four to her credit. The forward proved to be one of the Empire 8's most accomplished passers with 10 assists on her ledger – good for the fifth-most in the conference this season.
Now a four-time All-Region honoree and a five-time First-Team All-Empire 8 selection, Socker, who was named the Empire 8 Championship's Most Valuable Player, is perhaps the most gifted offensive talent that the Empire 8 has ever seen as she is the league's all-time leader in points and goals. The graduate student, who was also voted as the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year in 2017, is also Fisher's all-time leader with 95 goals, 41 assists, 231 career points and 606 total shots over 85 games.
Emery burst onto the scene in a big way as she helped anchor one of the top defensive units in the league this season as head coach
Victoria Bothner's squad allowed just 2.55 goals on average to its opposition.
Emery, who was also named First-Team All-Conference, led the conference with 10 defensive saves over 19 games played during her rookie campaign. With Emery on the field, Fisher led the Empire 8 with nine shutouts. The Cardinals' defensive unit surrendered just 34 goals all season despite having played one of the more difficult non-conference schedules in Division III this season.
A First-Time All-Region pick, Andres added to her impressive list of accomplishment's after being named First-Team All-Empire 8 for the third time in her career after the midfielder produced 11 points over 19 games including four goals and three assists.
One of the more versatile players in the league, Andres accounted for 30 shots including 18 on goal, owns two game-winning tallies and finished the year among the leaders on the team with two defensive saves to her credit.
The Cardinals wrapped up another successful season after reaching the NCAA Championship for the second time in program history and first since 2016. Fisher posted a 12-8 overall record and claimed its second consecutive Empire 8 Championship after blanking Utica College in the finale, 3-0. In all, the team had seven players named All-Conference by the league after producing an 8-0 mark in the Empire 8 standings.
