ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team fell victim to an 0-4 non-conference defeat at the hands of crosstown foe, the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers, on Tuesday evening at Tiger Stadium. The Cardinals now drop to 5-4 in the 2021 campaign, while the Tigers improved to 5-2-3 overall.
Despite being out-shot ten-to-three, Fisher went corner-for-corner in the first half with the Tigers, who are ranked fourth in this week's United Soccer Coaches' regional poll. However, RIT gained momentum going into the half as it used its relentless transition game to send a ball to the far corner of the box, which was ricocheted off the near post and into the back of the Fisher net.
After playing an evenly-matched first 25 minutes out of the intermission, RIT took over, scoring another three goals before the final whistle, to which the Cardinals failed to answer.
Despite allowing four goals, Cardinals keeper,
Halle Tickell, notched eight saves after facing 24 shots in the 90-minute affair. Her record between the pipes falls to 4-3.
Fisher's four shots were split between
Carli Kovarik,
Emma Osterhoudt,
Tori Cruz, and
Grace Hainsworth.
The Cardinals now turn their attention solely to Empire 8 Conference play, as they host Russell Sage this Saturday, October 9th for a 1 P.M. meeting with the Gators at Growney Stadium.
