Women's Tennis Falls in Spring Break Opener

Hilton Head, S.C. - The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team began its spring break trip at the Van Der Meer Tennis Courts on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina on Sunday. The Cardinals dropped their match against Drew University by a score of 9-0. The loss ends Fisher's five-match winning streak it had going into the winter after earning their first-ever Empire 8 Championship. 

Junior Valerie Morgans gave the Cardinals their best chance at winning a point at sixth singles. After dropping the opening set, Morgans responded by nabbed the second set, 6-4. In the the deciding third set the Liverpool native fell in a tight one, 10-8. 

At fourth singles, Zuzanna Pociecha took her opponent to a tiebreaker in the first set. The graduate student ended up coming up short, 7-5, and then loss the second set to drop the match. 

E8 Rookie of the Year Cydney Bell earned five games in the first set of third singles. 

In doubles, Morgans and and Jacqueline Chouinard won the most games of Fisher's doubles teams. The pair loss, 8-5, at third doubles. 

The Cardinals (9-4) take on Bridgewater College at 3 p.m. on Monday from Hilton Head.
