PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team earned its first win of the 2019 campaign as the Cardinals dropped Oswego State, 7-2, on Sunday at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the win, Fisher improved to 1-1 overall while the Lakers ended the day holding a 1-3 overall record.
The Cardinals took two of three flights in doubles play as
Kaili Saffran paired up with
Cassidy Bell for a hard-fought 8-7 decision at first doubles.
Zuzanna Pociecha and
Veronika Jurczuk also earned Fisher a point in third doubles as the duo came out on top, 8-1.
In singles play, Saffran was a winner in the first flight, 6-2, 6-2, while Bell followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 decision in second singles. At third singles, freshman
Cydney Bell was victorious, 6-3, 7-6, while Pociecha earned a 6-3 decision in the first set of her fourth singles match before finishing off her opponent behind a 6-0 effort.
The Cardinals' final point came in sixth singles when
Valerie Morgans bested her opponent, 6-2, 6-2.
Fisher will look to build upon its momentum at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it opens the Empire 8 portion of its schedule against the visiting Hartwick College Hawks at Mendon Racquet Club.
