PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team kept its momentum going as the Cardinals picked up a 9-0 win over Hartwick College on Saturday in the team's Empire 8 opener at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the win, Fisher, which has now posted back-to-back wins, improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference while the Hawks dipped to 1-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference standings.
In singles play,
Kaili Saffran came out ahead in the match's first flight behind a 6-3, 6-1 performance while
Cassidy Bell was a winner at second singles, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman
Cydney Bell won her third singles pairing by a score of 6-3, 6-1 while
Zuzanna Pociecha bested her opponent at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0. The Cardinals rounded out singles play as
Valerie Morgans (6-0,6-0) and
Amanda Thongsirimonghoun (6-2, 6-1) each picked up a point.
In doubles play, Saffran and Ca. Bell posted an 8-4 decision at first doubles while Pociecha and
Veronika Jurczuk came out on top, 8-1, at second doubles. In the third and final doubles pairing, Morgans and Cy. Bell did not yield a game to win 8-0.
The Cardinals will look to make it three in a row at 1 p.m. on Sunday when they host the College at Brockport in a non-conference match at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.
