HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Cardinals fell to Eastern Nazarene College, 6-3, before falling to Methodist University, 8-1. With the defeats, Fisher fell to 9-5 on the season.
Against Eastern Nazarene, Fisher took points in third doubles, and fifth and sixth singles.
In doubles play,
Grace Peter and
Zuzanna Pociecha earned a hard-fought 8-5 win while
Kaili Saffran and
Cassidy Bell took two sets in an 8-2 loss at first doubles.
In singles play, Pociecha continued her strong play and won a point behind a 6-0, 6-1 decision while
Valerie Morgans pulled out a 6-4, 6-3, decision in sixth singles.
The Cardinals were only able to come away with on point against Methodist with Peter accounting for a 6-4, 6-1 win at sixth singles. Fisher nearly took another point in singles play as Morgans forced a third set, but came up short in a 1-6, 6-3, 8-10 loss at fifth singles. Pociecha also played a competitive flight at fourth singles but fell, 3-6, 6-2, 8-10.
Fisher will conclude its season at Hilton Head at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday against Drew University.
