Women's Tennis Takes Down Brockport in First Match of Season

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team took home the victory in its first match of the season against the College at Brockport, 7-2. With the win the Cardinals advanced to 1-0 on the year, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 0-2.

Fisher got off to a hot start, taking all three doubles matches to start the day. Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year selection in 2017, Kaili Saffran, and her partner Cassidy Bell defeated their opponents, 8-3. Senior Caroline Seaberg and Grace Peter then took the second doubles in an equally well fought match, 9-8.

Brockport eventually would have to forfeit third doubles before the teams moved on to singles matches.

Saffran started out singles matches with a sweep in first singles with final scores of, 6-3 and 6-2. After falling in second and third singles, the Cardinals would rally to come back to take fourth and fifth singles.

Amanda Thongsirimonghoun took fourth singles in three sets with scores of 6-7, 6-1 and 11-9 before Zuzanna Pociecha swept fifth singles with final scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

The Cardinals jump right into Empire 8 Conference play at 1 p.m. on Saturday against the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College.
