TROY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five as the Cardinals downed the Sage Colleges Gators in Empire 8 play, 8-1. Fisher jumped to a perfect 5-0 and 3-0 in conference play thus far. The Gators dropped to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in Empire 8 play.
Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell kicked things off for the Cardinals with the 8-4 first singles score. After the team fell in second doubles, Grace Peter and Jacqueline Chouinard bounced back for the third doubles win with a final score of, 8-5.
First singles began with Saffran doing her thing and sweeping her Gator opponent in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2. Bell then took second singles in the same fashion with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
Senior captain Caroline Seaberg won in a hard fought battle in third singles with scores of 6-2, 3-6 and 10-4 before Mikayla Santulli took down her opponent in fourth singles, 6-0 and 6-2.
Fisher kept it rolling in fifth singles as Amanda Thongsirimonghoun claimed the victory in straight sets before Zuzanna Pociecha capped off the day for the Cardinals with a sixth singles win with scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
The Cardinals step back onto the court at 12 p.m. on Sunday as Fisher looks to take down the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks.
