WASHINGTON, N.J. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team saw its fall season come to a close on Friday as the Cardinals, who were seeded third overall, fell to second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-0, in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship. With the loss, Fisher fell to 8-3 overall, while the Ducks will move on to play for the Empire 8 Championship and a berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday.
In doubles play,
Kaili Saffran and
Cassidy Bell fell, 8-3, while
Mikayla Santulli and
Caroline Seaberg fought hard before losing at second doubles, 8-4.
Grace Peter and
Jacqueline Chouinard were defeated at third doubles, 8-0.
In individual play, Seaberg fell at third singles, 6-3, 6-3 while
Zuzanna Pociecha lost her sixth singles pairing, 6-0, 6-3.
The 2018 campaign marked another successful season for the Cardinals as head coach
Linda Gohagan's squad posted eight wins and reached the postseason for the second consecutive season.
Overall, prior to Friday's match, the Cardinals had posted a 37-17 mark in singles play led by Saffran's 8-1 mark while Santulli broke onto the scene with six wins in seven matches.
Fisher will return to action in March when the team travels to South Carolina for a series of matches as part of its annual spring trip.
