PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team took the 7-2 decision over Alfred University in Empire 8 Conference play. With the win, the team advances to 7-1, and 4-1 in conference play. Alfred falls to 1-10 overall, and 1-6 in the Empire 8.
Kaili Saffran started the singles wins off, sweeping her opponent in first singles, 6-1, 6-2. After falling in second singles, Sarah Sorrentino put up a fight with her Alfred opponent after falling in her first set, eventually taking the win with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Cassidy Bell and Amanda Pendergast followed that performance up with sweeps in fourth and fifth singles, 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 to end the Fisher singles wins.
Fisher swept all three rounds of doubles on the day. Saffran and Bell started off with a win in first doubles with an Alfred forfeit due to an injury suffered in the match.
Taylor Slink and Pendergast would come away with an 8-3 victory in second doubles. Sorrentino and Caroline Seaberg finished the winning day for Fisher with an 8-0 shutout of their opponents in third doubles.
The Cardinals return to the court at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as they travel just down the road to take on their East Avenue rivals, Nazareth College.
