UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team came away with another Empire 8 Conference victory, winning the 8-1 decision over Utica College. Fisher advances to 6-1 overall and sits at 4-1 in the conference. Utica falls to 2-6 on the year, and 1-5 in Empire 8 play.
The Empire 8 Conference tennis player of the week, Kaili Saffran continued her win streak, taking first singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Taylor Slink would then follow suit and take second singles, 6-1, 6-2.
After dropping third singles, the Cardinals would go on to win fourth, fifth and sixth singles, all in straight sets. Cassidy Bell would play a close first set, winning 7-6, then eventually come away with a 6-2 win in the second set. Amanda Pendergast and Zuzanna Pociecha would finish out the day with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2.
Doubles proved to be all Fisher, beginning with Saffran and Bell taking the first round against their Utica opponents, 8-5. Seaberg and Sarah Sorrentino followed suit, winning second doubles, 8-3. Meaghan Reilly and Grace Peter would finish out the Cardinals winning day in third doubles, with an 8-3 decision.
Fisher returns to the court at 1 p.m. on Saturday in another Empire 8 pairing at home against the Alfred University Saxons.
