Women's Tennis Picks Up First Empire 8 Victory

Houghton, N.Y – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team picked up its second win of the weekend, as the Cardinals defeated Houghton College 7-2. Fisher moves to 2-0 with the win, while Houghton falls to 0-2 thus far.

Kaili Saffran started things out for Fisher defeating her opponent in first singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-3,. In second singles, Taylor Slink split her first two sets but eventually came away with the win in the third set 9-7. In fourth and fifth singles, Cassidy Bell and Amanda Pendergast won both matches in straight sets.

Caroline Seaberg dropped her first set in sixth singles, but picked up the tempo and came away with the second and third set wins.

Saffran and Bell came away with the first of two doubles wins, defeating their opponents 8-4. Slink and Pendergast were credited with the second doubles win, with an 8-5 win of their own.

With Saturday's win, the Cardinals pick up its first Empire 8 victory.

Fisher will serve up more action at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, when it travels to Elmira College for its second Empire 8 matchup.
