Men's Soccer Drops Empire 8 Opener To Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season in its Empire 8 conference opener, 1-0, against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks. With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-1-3 in its 2017 campaign, while Stevens improves to 4-3 on the year.

The Cardinals would be undone by a first half Duck's goal just shy of the 17th minute of play. A Stevens' player would go on to put a header past Joe Catalfamo off a corner kick attempt.

Fisher would be outshot by the Ducks, 11-2 in the first half of play. Jake Gentile and Joe Balls would record the two shot attempts for the Cardinals in the half.

The first half Stevens' goal would prove to be the deciding factor, as both teams would go scoreless in the second half. The Cardinals would tally a few scoring opportunities in the second half, with their best opportunity coming in the 80th minute of play, when Tyler Randall fired a shot, eventually saved by the Stevens' goalkeeper.

The Cardinals would finish the game outshot by the Ducks, 19-6. Six different players all registered a shot for Fisher in the match.

Catalfamo would pick up his first loss of the season, registering seven saves over all 90 minutes of play.

Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in a non-conference pairing with the D'Youville College Spartans.
