PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team shut out The College at Brockport Golden Eagles 9-0 in its first match of the season. The win puts Fisher at 1-0, while Brockport falls to 0-1.
The Cardinals got out in front quickly when the first doubles pairing of Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell won decisively, defeating their opponents 8-2. Amanda Pendergast and Taylor Slink followed that match up with an 8-6 win of their own in second doubles. Caroline Seaberg and Sarah Sorrentino rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-1 defeat.
It looked just about the same across the singles board, as Saffran led off in first singles, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. The second, third, and fourth sets were also won in straight sets, with no Brockport player winning more than two games in each set.
Pendergast had to fight for her victory after dropping her first game 5-7. She would eventually come out on top in the next two sets, winning 6-2, 10-6.
Seaberg rounded out the day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in sixth singles.
The Cardinals will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday in their first match in Empire 8 Conference play.
