HOBOKEN, Nj. - The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team closed out its season in the semi-final round of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament to Stevens Institute of Technology, 2-0. The Cardinals finish the year with a 8-6-4 overall record. The Ducks will battle it out with Sage at 7 p.m. on Saturday for the Empire 8 title.
Stevens jumped on the board with just nine seconds remaining in the first half. A Stevens player was awarded a free kick, which was played into the box, eventually finding another player to head it into the net.
Joe Catalfamo tallied three total saves in the first half of play.
Stevens would score the second and final goal of the game just over the 72nd minute of play. A Duck player would gather the rebound off his teammate's shot, putting the ball into the lower corner of the net.
The Cardinals would make a strong attempt at a comeback in the second half, firing eight shots total in the half.
Justin Ferron, Michael Piccarreto, and Bryan Rollins blasted two shots in the contest, while Justen Polk and Amar Mann each fired one.
Catalfamo would suffer the loss in net, stopping six total shots over 90 minutes of play.
