PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team swept the Sage Colleges Gators, 9-0 in Empire 8 Conference play. The Cardinals advance to 8-2, while jumping to 6-2. With the loss, the Gators fall to 9-4, while dropping to 4-4 in the Empire 8. The tennis team secures the third seed in the Empire 8 Conference tournament slated to begin Friday, October 13th.
Kaili Saffran and Taylor Slink began first and second singles with wins in straight sets, with scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 7-6, 6-0. Sarah Sorrentino was challenged in third singles, but came away with a victory, recording scores of 3-6, 6-3 and 11-9. Cassidy Bell followed suit, with straight set wins, 6-4 and 6-4.
Amanda Pendergast and Caroline Seaberg finished out the singles matches, taking wins in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1.
The Cardinals also took all of the doubles wins on the day. Saffran and Bell started out the wins in first singles, beating their opponents, 8-6. Sorrentino and Seaberg followed that up with an impressive, 8-2 victory. Pendergast and Amanda Thongsirimonghoun finished out the sweep with an 8-0 shutout of their opponents.
Fisher finishes out its regular season schedule at 4 p.m. on Thursday against the Oswego State Lakers. The day is also slated for senior day, where the team will recognize seniors Sarah Sorrentino and Amanda Pendergast.
