Women's Soccer Closes Out Season With Win Over Elmira

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team closed out its regular season schedule with a 4-2 victory over Elmira College. At the completion of the 2017 campaign, the Cardinals finish with a record of 5-12-1. The Soaring Eagles fall to 1-13-1 on the year, with a single Empire 8 contest still left to play.

Elmira hopped on the board first when a player received a pass on the left side of the goal, eventually beating her defender and netting the score, giving the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 edge just shy of the 19 minute mark.

Fisher would draw the score at one apiece about a minute and a half later, when the Cardinals registered a corner kick, an Elmira player would attempt to clear the ball, eventually finding the feet of Isabelle DeStefano who would find the back of the net from the top of the box.

The teams would stay knotted up at the half with Fisher having the 10-1 shot edge over Elmira. Elise Olivo would lead the way for the Cardinals, registering four total shots in the first half.

Just shy of the 57 minute mark, Elmira would take the lead again, when a Soaring Eagle found her way down the right side of the field, eventually beating the goalie and putting the ball in the lower left corner of the net.

Fisher would score the equalizer under a minute later when Hannah Buschner sent a pass to Olivo, pressuring the goalie to come off the line to defend, eventually sneaking it past to knot the game at two.

From here on out, the Cardinals would hit the gas and not stop. At the 64 minute mark, Olivo would score her second goal of the game and fourth of the season when Shiane Irwin passed her the ball, where she would eventually loft a shot from the left side of the box, up over the goalkeeper's head for the score.

The Cardinals would tally their final goal of the game just before the 80th minute mark, when Kierra Duvall passed a ball from just over midfield, where Abigail Barr would fire the shot to the back of the net for her first career goal.

Fisher would finish the game outshooting Elmira, 20-5. Olivo would finish with a career-high ten shots on the day. DeStefano, Barr and Emily Murray would all blast two shots of their own.

Lila Platt would take her first career win in net, totaling a single save in net after checking in at halftime for the Cardinals.
