PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team fell in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Semi-Finals, 5-2, to Stevens Institute of Technology. The Cardinals finished the year with an overall record of 9-3, which is the best season and the most wins the team has had since 2006, when the team went 10-6 overall in the fall portion of the schedule. Stevens moves to 9-1 on the year and will take on top-seeded Nazareth College at 10 a.m. on Saturday for the Empire 8 Conference title.
Fisher fought many hard battles on the day, often falling in close matches. Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell took the win in the first doubles match, defeating their Stevens opponents, 8-4. Amanda Pendergast and Amanda Thongsirimonghoun then fell in second doubles, 8-4, while Sarah Sorrentino and Caroline Seaberg dropped third doubles, 8-2.
Saffran kicked off singles with the only singles win on the day, defeating her opponent, 6-3, 7-5.
Taylor Slink hen played two close sets, eventually falling to her opponent, 6-4, 6-4. Amanda Pendergast also dueled her opponent into three sets to finish out her senior season, falling 7-5, 6-4, 6-2.
Fisher will return to action in March of 2018, with a spring trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
