The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team was narrowly edged 5-4 by Alfred University Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Cardinals move to 3-1 on the season while sitting on a 2-1 conference record. The Saxons improve to 1-4 overall (1-2 Empire 8).
Fisher got off to a good start, winning two of the three possible points in doubles.
Olivia Rotondo and
Katey Padden earned a point in the second slot winning by a score of 8-6 while
Caroline Seaberg and
Eileen Fleming teamed up for an 8-4 victory at third.
The duo of Padden and Rotundo used their momentum from doubles to propel them to wins in singles play. Rotundo nabbed a win at fourth, taking down her opponent 6-1, 7-6. Meanwhile, Padden used a third set to defeat her counterpart, eventually taking the match 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Fisher will return to the courts on at 4 p.m. on Friday as it hosts conference-rival Nazareth College.
