The St. John Fisher College baseball team picked up two wins on Sunday against the University of Mount Union at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida. The Cardinals defeated the Raiders 2-1 in the first contest before winning the second game by the same exact score.

Following Sunday's results, Fisher now stands at 3-1 on the season while Mount Union is 0-2.

Game 1 - Fisher 2 Mount Union 1

The Cardinals struggled to get on base through the first three innings of the contest as the score was a 0-0 tie before Fisher went to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning.

It was in the fourth that the Cardinals went to work as the second batter of the inning; Jack Trotman hit a double to give Fisher its first hit of the contest. Later in the inning, Scott Eisenmenger hit a home run for the second consecutive day, this time a two-run shot that sent Trotman home and gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

Mount Union would tack on a run in the seventh and final inning but Fisher held on for the one run victory.

Stephen Lewis (1-0) was the starting pitcher for Fisher and was awarded the victory after going the full seven innings. The senior allowed only one run on seven hits.

Trotman finished 1-for-3 from the plate including the double and run scored while Eisenmenger went 1-for-2 while collecting two RBI on his home run.

Mike Roman also hit a single in the game and batted 1-for-2 on the day.

Game 2 - Fisher 2 Mount Union 1

Fisher jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning when an Evan Ryan single drove in Eisenmenger to put the Cardinals up 1-0. The Fisher lead was short lived as Mount Union scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 1-1 game heading into the third frame.

The two teams were unable to find home plate again until the sixth inning. That was when Eisenmenger scored his second run of the game, this time driven in by a Nate Roethel single, to give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage. That was the only plate appearance of the day for Roethel, who finished the day 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Kevin Berge retired three of four batters pitching one inning of relief in the seventh to seal the victory for Fisher. Ryan Felske also pitched an inning of relief, striking out one batter and allowing one hit in his efforts.

Ryan, Roman, and Joe Simmons each were 1-for-3 batting in the contest while Roman drove in a run.

Jim Dawson was the starting pitcher for Fisher and saw 5.0 innings of action. The freshman allowed one run on three hits in addition to tallying five strike outs.

The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. when they take on Ohio Northern from Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida.
