Women’s Tennis Falls Short at Houghton

The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team fell short of earning its first victory of the 2015 season as the Cardinals lost a 5-4 road decision to Empire 8 Conference opponent Houghton College on Saturday.
 
Winning singles matched for the Cardinals were sophomore Amanda Pendergast, freshman Katey Padden, and junior Eileen Fleming.
 
Pendergast won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in second singles while Padden won third singles by a score of 7-6, 6-1. Fleming, now 2-0 in singles matches this year, defeated her sixth singles opponent 7-5, 6-4.
 
Fisher picked up one point in doubles competition as Padden and Caroline Seaberg won third doubles 8-5.
 
Next up for the Cardinals is a home matchup with Ithaca College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.
