The St. John Fisher College field hockey team defeated Houghton College 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday.
With the win, Fisher advances to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8 Conference. The Highlanders fall to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.
Elizabeth Cusack scored in the 22
nd minute on an assist from
Gabby LaForce to notch her fourth goal of the season.
The Cardinals entered the first half up one goal over the Highlanders, but
Lauren Fazio found the back of the net in the 45
th on a pass from
Emily Markarian to give Fisher a two-goal advantage.
Houghton rallied with 20 minutes left in the game scoring two goals late in the second, tying the game at 2-2.
Fisher opened the overtime period with a strong offense, and after eight minutes
Emily Markarian fired a shot past the goalkeeper picking up the game-winning goal for the Cardinals.
With this goal, Markarian advances to seven goals on the season.

Fisher field hockey returns to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday when it takes on SUNY Geneseo at Growney Stadium.
