Cusack's Last-Second Goal Lifts Field Hockey Over RPI

BOX SCORE

Elizabeth Cusack scored with eight seconds remaining in regulation to lift Fisher 2-1 over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Sunday at Growney Stadium.   The win marks the first-ever for Fisher over RPI who had won the previous three contests.

With the win Fisher improves to 4-2 overall while RPI falls to 1-3.

After scoring the first goal of the game Cusack was able to notch the game-winning goal in the closing seconds off a rebound from an initial shot by Emily Markarian.  The freshman attacker led a rush from midfield and fired a shot from the right side that squirted out to Cusack who rattled it home for the win.  Cusack now has six goals on the year, including two game-winners.

Fisher was granted that opportunity in large part due to an excellent performance in net from goalkeeper Danielle Famolaro who made seven saves on the day, including three in the final seven minutes.

The Engineers were able to break through just once on 23 shots, with their goal coming at the 60-minute mark.

Cusack got things going for Fisher just 3:51 into the contest taking it from the left side into the middle and blasting a shot into the far post.

Fisher continues its five-game homestand at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it will host Ithaca College for an Empire 8 contest.
