The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday, falling 1-0 to visiting Ithaca College in double overtime at Growney Stadium.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 4-9-1 and 2-3 in the Empire 8, while Ithaca moves to 4-6-2, 4-1 respectively.
Ithaca's Casey Williamson was able to get in behind the defense, dribbling down the left flank before slotting a shot to the far post past
Josh Klein in the 105
th minute.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half. Klein made four saves in the opening half to keep the blank slate, including stopping a one-on-one opportunity with five minutes remaining.
Fisher had a quality chance in the 72
nd minute as
Joey Plummer took a shot from above the 18-yard box that sailed just high.
Shortly after, in the 73
rd minute, Klein came up huge a save as Ithaca stole a pass, taking it down the down the right flank for the breakaway opportunity but the senior goalie was able to push it aside.
In the first overtime Philiip Brogan had a strong opportunity in the 98
th minute as his rocket shot soared just over the cross bar.
Ithaca held a 15-9 shot advantage in the game.
Josh Klein made six saves in net for Fisher.
Fisher returns to action next Saturday at 4 p.m. when it will travel to Utica College for a 4 p.m start.
