Field Hockey Defeats Brockport 2-1

BOX SCORE

St. John Fisher College's Danielle Famolaro collected nine saves including three in the game's final moments to preserve a 2-1 lead over the Brockport Golden Eagles, Wednesday afternoon at Growney Stadium.  With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Golden Eagles slip to 0-2.

The Cardinals held a 2-0 lead in the second half before Brockport could get on the scoreboard.  The visitors controlled the tempo for much of the half, outshooting the home team 15-3, but Fisher's defense, led by Famolaro, held strong and kept the Golden Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the half, despite Brockport's best efforts.  Brockport had a golden opportunity in the game's final 17 seconds, but as she did the entire game, Famolaro turned the shot away.

Bailee Barrett got the ball rolling for Fisher, scoring her second goal of the season in the game's 25th minute on a pass from Marissa Vedella.  The Cardinals added the eventual game-winning goal in the 49th minute when Sarah Bisesi found an open Elizabeth Cusack who netted her first goal of the season to give Fisher the 2-0 advantage.

The Cardinals will take to the road at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they take on the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland.
