Baseball Drops a Close Game to Case

Box Score

The St. John Fisher College baseball team dropped a 3-0 pitchers' duel against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon at Dugan Yard. With the loss, Fisher falls to 14-8 on the year and will have a chance for revenge at 12 p.m. tomorrow as it takes on Case in a doubleheader.

Case got all it would need in the first inning; scoring a run before starter Adam Pettinella settled in and shut down the Spartans for the next seven innings. Pettinella threw eight innings of five-hit ball, allowing just one run and one walk while fanning a batter.

Thomas Dybas was called in for relief in the ninth and subsequently gave up three soft singles that generated Case's other two scores.

At the plate, Fisher was held to no runs on five hits. Shane Barley went 2-for-3 while Ben Bostick had a double. The Cardinals had the lead off runner on three times in the game but was unable to plate the man on base.
