Men's Soccer Nails Down 2-1 Win in Second Overtime period

BOX SCORE

It took two overtimes, but the St. John Fisher College men's soccer team earned a thrilling come from behind win against SUNY Geneseo, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in Geneva, N.Y.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to  5-9-2, while Geneseo falls to 6-10-3.

The visiting Cardinals fell behind early as the Knights scored in only the fifth minute of play on a ball off the foot of Jason Ianone to take a 1-0 lead.

Fisher looked to even things up, but couldn't find the back of the net as Geneseo's goalie made three first half saves to hold the Cardinals at bay.

Fisher controlled the tempo through much of the second half, outshooting the Knights 6-5 in the frame.  The equalizer came in the 74th minute when Phillip Brogan blasted a shot that beat Geneseo's net minder to tie the game at 1-1.

Overtime would be needed to decide a winner as neither team was able to end things in regulation.  After a scoreless first overtime period, Fisher scored the go-ahead goal with its only shot of the period.  Thomas Goetze notched his first career goal in a big way, lifting Fisher to a 2-1 win to cap the victory.

Josh Klein started in net for Fisher and made three saves  to earn the win.

Fisher will close out its season on the road at 2 p.m. against Houghton College on Saturday.
