The St. John Fisher College field hockey team started quickly but could not hold on to its lead, falling 5-2 to visiting SUNY Geneseo Wednesday night at Growney Stadium.
With the loss Fisher drops to 8-9 on the season, while Geneseo improves to 11-6.
The first half featured a breakneck pace with both teams creating quality scoring opportunities. Fisher found the back of the net just over a minute into the game as
Marissa Vedella found
Elizabeth Cusack for her eighth goal of the season.
Cusack repaid the favor to Vedella just ten minutes later in front of the net to put the Cardinals up 2-0.
Geneseo responded with three goals of its own to close out the half and take a 3-2 lead into the break.
The second half of play was very evenly matched until the Knights scored back-to-back goals with under five minutes to play to seal the victory.
Geneseo outshot Fisher 30-18 in the game.
Danielle Famolaro finished the game with 11 saves for the Cardinals
Fisher closes out the regular season at 11 a.m. Saturday when it hosts St. Lawrence University.
