BOX SCORE
The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at De Baun Athletic Complex.
The Cardinals found themselves in an early hole as No. 5 Stevens knocked in its first goal in the 10th minute, but Fisher was able to stymy the Ducks' aggressive offense the rest of the half.
After intermission, it was a defensive battle as both teams struggled to find quality opportunities. That was until late in the frame when Fisher keeper
Kyle Metcalfe bobbled a high-arching pass which Stevens' Jay Mikula corralled and placed into the open net.
Of Fisher's seven shots, only two came in the second half, one each by
Jake Quattrini and
Joel Castellini.
Metcalfe finished the match with four saves.
With the loss Fisher falls to 4-9-2 and 2-4 in Empire 8 play. Stevens improves to 13-1-1 and 5-0 in conference.
The Cardinals will continue on the road at 3 p.m. on Wednesday as they take on SUNY Geneseo.
