Field Hockey Uses Valiant Rally To Force OT At Stevens

The St. John Fisher College field hockey team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force overtime, but wasn't able to come away with the win, as host Stevens Institute of Technology scored on a penalty stroke to defeat the visiting Cardinals 4-3 on Saturday in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference match.

With the loss, Fisher falls to 6-7 and 2-2 in the Empire 8, while Stevens improves to 8-4, 4-0.
 
The Ducks never trailed in the game, scoring less than three minutes in and pushed their lead to 3-0 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half before Fisher began its rally.
 
Liz Baldwin deflect a shot from Marissa Vedella late in the first half to make a 3-1 at the break.
 
Freshman Bailee Barrett scored her fifth goal of the year on a penalty stroke in the 56th minute to pull Fisher to within a goal.

With just over 30 seconds left in regulation, Fisher forced overtime with Vedella scoring her second goal of the year. The Ducks, however, ended the Cardinals' comeback, scoring on a penalty stroke four minutes into overtime.
 
Fisher goalie Danielle Famolaro stopped 11 shots in goal for the Cardinals.
 
Fisher will return to action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and will host Nazareth College.
