Rochester Rallies Past Fisher In Field Hockey

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College field hockey program gave the nationally-ranked University of Rochester all it could handle for the game's first 15 minutes, but the Yellowjackets, ranked 14th nationally, pulled away with three goals in the second half and defeated the host Cardinals, 6-1 on Tuesday at Growney Stadium.

With the win, Rochester improves to 10-1, while Fisher falls to 5-5.

Rochester took an early 1-0 lead, scoring in the fourth minute of the game off a penalty corner, but the Cardinals came right back and tied the game at 1-1 just over four minutes later.   Following a penalty corner, Noelle Knox crossed the ball to Alexis Zakala, who rifled the ball into the back of the cage.

Fisher would take four more shots over the next seven minutes, but was never able to take the lead.   Goalie Danielle Famolaro kept the game tied at 1-1, stopping a penalty stroke in the 15th minutes, but Rochester took the lead for good just over a minute later.

Famolaro finished the game with nine saves.

Fisher returns to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will host Empire 8 affiliate member Washington & Jefferson College in a pivotal conference matchup.
