Cardinals Pick-up First Conference Win at Alfred.

Box Score

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team picked up a commanding 5-1 win over Alfred University late Thursday night.  The win was the first Empire 8 victory for the Cardinals, as they now stand at 1-0-2 in the Conference and 4-3-3 overall on the year.  It was also the first time in four games that Fisher didn't need extra time to decide a winner.  With the loss, the Saxons fall to 1-3 in the Empire 8 and 5-4 overall.

Heather Konieczny provided setups for the first two Cardinal goals, first feeding Chelsea Oberkrieser in the 17th minute to put Fisher up 1-0.  Fourteen minutes later, the senior found teammate Alexandra Rohloff who added to the lead by scoring her seventh goal of the year.

After leading 2-0 after the first half, the Cardinals continued their domination with three more goals over a span of 15:24.  Amanda Konieczny, Vicki Alfieri and Hannah Gilbride all added tallies for Fisher, pushing the score to 5-0.

Alfred added its only goal on a corner kick in the 80th minute to avoid being shut out on home turf.

Sydney DeVitto and Jessica Plukas split time in net for the Cardinals, with both recording one save.  Oberkrieser and Laura Burgstrom were also credited with assists for Fisher.

Fisher won every offensive category, outshooting the Saxons 28-4 and taking five corner kicks compared to Alfred's one.

The Cardinals will return to Growney Stadium for their next contest, facing Union College at 1 p.m on Sunday.
