Men's Soccer Ties Ithaca At Home

BOX SCORE

For the second time this week, the St. John Fisher College men's soccer team played into overtime, with the result on Saturday being a 1-1 tie with Ithaca College at the second ever game at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex. It was the first Empire 8 contest for each team this season, with the Cardinals' record moving to 2-2-1 while the Bombers are now 2-1-2.

Under one minute into the second half, Jake Quattrini fought for a ball just outside the box and rifled a pass to Matt Silvi, who was initially spun around by his defender, forcing the pass to deflect off his back and past the Bombers' netminder to knot the score at 1-1.

In the first half, Ithaca scored a goal off a corner kick, when Tim Goldman settled a juggled corner in front of the net and put it in the lower left side past the Fisher keeper.

Fisher only had two shots in the opening period, but both were exceptional opportunities. First, Stefan John put a pass on Garhett Varin's foot as he fought off a defender in front of the goal, but his shot missed just over the crossbar. Later in the half, the Cardinals received a corner kick, and after a pass, John Crean had a beautiful header, only to be denied by an Ithaca defender on a team save.

Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday as it travels to SUNY Potsdam for a non-conference matchup.
