The St. John Fisher College field hockey program earned its first-ever Empire 8 Conference win on Saturday, as the Cardinals pulled away for a 4-0 win over visiting Elmira College at Fisher's Growney Stadium.

With the win, Fisher improves to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8 Conference.  Fisher, playing in just its second season as an NCAA Division III program, has already matched its inaugural season win-total.
 
Fisher jumped out to a 1-0 lead as sophomore Marissa Vedella scored the eventual game-winning goal just over five minutes into the game.  Vedella collected a blocked shot and drove the ball into the back of the cage for her second goal of the season.
 
The Cardinals pulled away with two goals in a 4:17 span midway through the second half.  Kailen Maynard scored at the 51:49 mark to put Fisher up 2-0 and Vedella scored her second of the game after teammate Caitlin Allen was denied on the breakaway.
 
Freshman Elizabeth Cusack sealed the win with her third goal of the year with 2:12 left.

Freshman goalie Danielle Famolaro was stellar in goal yet again.  The reigning Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week stopped nine shots to earn her second shutout of the season.

Fisher finished the game with 21-18 advantage in shots.

The Cardinals will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and will host Wells College.  It will be the final contest in a six-game homestand.
