Season Ends For Baseball With Loss To Marietta

The St. John Fisher College baseball season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the fourth-seeded Cardinals dropped a 9-2 decision to host Marietta College in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional.

With the loss, Fisher finishes the season with a 31-12 overall record, tying the College record for most wins in a season.  Fisher beat Marietta, the nation's No. 1 ranked team and the defending national champions, 5-2 on Thursday, but today's loss eliminated the Cardinals from the regional and secured the team a third-place finish.

Fisher jumped out to a 1-0 lead as leadoff hitter Steve Karnyski, the D3baseball.com New York Region Player of the Year, homered in the bottom of the first inning.

The Pionners (41-7) scored the game's next four runs to take the lead for good.   Fisher scored its second run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Brad Rush.
Fisher finished with only five hits on the day with Karnyski picked up three of them in his final game.
