The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team lost to Stevens Institute 2-1 in a tight battle in Hoboken, NJ.  The Cardinals, who have already clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Championship, fall to 6-6-4 on the year and 3-2-3 in the Empire 8.  With the win, Stevens improves to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Stevens broke out to a 2-0 lead  in the first 13 minutes, with Ann Heine recording both a goal and an assist for her team.  On the first goal, Heine sent a cross to the left side to teammate Jessie Wos who deposited the ball into the net for the lead.  Heine scored what would prove to be the game winner just 10:37 later, as she capitalized on a one-on-one breakaway against Fisher netminder

The Cardinals lone goal came from 
Hannah Gilbride, who took advantage of a Steven's goalie misplay to score.  Melissa Murphy came out of her net to play a crossed ball, but the 
Aimee Caluwe pass instead from Gilbride who cut the deficit in half. 
Trailing 2-1 after halftime, Fisher came close to evening the game when 
Chelsea Oberkrieser collected a failed Stevens clear and faced Murphy alone.  But the goalkeeper came up with a huge save, sealing the win for her team.
DeVitto finished with two saves in the game, while both teams were evenly matched with 10 shots in the contest.  Oberkrieser and Gilbride both recorded two shots on goal with their team taking a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cardinals will return to action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to face Buffalo State.
