Fisher Men's Soccer Beat Cross-Town Rival RIT

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team won a hard-fought battle 1-0 over the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on Wednesday night at Growney Stadium. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 9-4-1 on the season while the Tigers drop to 8-5-1.

In the 72nd minute, Fisher got the only goal it would need when Danny Yancone sent a ball into Garhett Varin, who lifted a ball past the goalie's left side from just a few feet from the keeper for the goal.

Despite being outshot 13-3, Fisher had quality touches all-game long and truly controlled play, with a few great crosses being barely intercepted by the RIT keeper and a goal scoring play being wiped away on an offside call against the Cardinals.

Kyle Metcalfe earned his fifth shutout of the year, stopping four shots between the pipes for Fisher.

Fisher will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks for a pivotal Empire 8 matchup. The game will amount to a regular-season championship game for the conference, with the winner earning the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Championship and the privilege to host the event.
