The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship with a 1-0 win in overtime at East-Avenue rival Nazareth College on Saturday.
Jake Quattrini scored the game's only goal with just under two minutes left in the first overtime. Senior
Sean Fishel assisted on the goal.
Goalie
Kyle Metcalfe made 10 saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
With the win, Fisher improves to 8-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the Empire 8. The Cardinals are currently in first place in the Empire 8 standings and has just one conference game left – Stevens Institute of Technology – at 12 p.m. next Saturday at Fisher on the grass
of the Polisseni Track and Field Complex. A win would make Fisher, who was picked to finish last in the Empire 8 Preseason Coaches Poll, the regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed for the four-team conference championship.
Fisher will play its final four games at home starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when the Cardinals host Rochester Institute of Technology.
