Men's Soccer Gets Second Straight Win

Kyle Metcalfe came up with 13 key saves in a shutout win for the Cardinals.

The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team defeated the Utica College Pioneers 1-0 on Homecoming Weekend Saturday at Growney Stadium. Fisher improves to 3-5 on the season and evens its record in conference play to 1-1. The Cardinals are on a two-game winning streak after defeating SUNY Potsdam 3-0 last Sunday.

Utica looked to get on the board early, but Kyle Metcalfe made an outstanding save to keep the game at 0-0.  Utica's Jeffrey Cupka connected on a cross and hit a hard one-timer to the Fisher net.  Metcalfe was able to travel across the goal, and stopped a sure goal with an outstretched leg.

Senior defender Tim Bach gave Fisher the only goal it would need against the Pioneers in the 36th minute. Bach joined a host of Cardinals at trying to collect a rebound in front of the net until the Rochester native finally settled the ball and put it past the keeper.

Metcalfe earned a shutout for the Cardinals, saving 13 shots on the afternoon in a game which Fisher was outshot 18-14.

Fisher will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night when they travel to the University of Rochester to face the Yellowjackets (4-2).
