Field Hockey Loses To RPI

Despite tallying three goals, the St. John Fisher field hockey team lost to host Renesslaer Polytechnic Institute 5-3 tonight

RPI got on the board early, putting home a rebound in just the first minute of the game.  The Engineers would go on to score three more unanswered goals to make the score 4-0 with 20:37 left in the half.

However, Fisher cut the lead to three goals before halftime when Marissa Vedella scored just under 18 minutes into the game.

RPI added their final goal of both the half and the game with just over a minute left to play in the first stanza, and that proved to be all they needed for the victory.

In the second half, Caitlin Allen scored for the Cardinals and then Alexis Zakala added another for the 5-3 score.  However, the Cardinals were never able to catch the five first-half goals scored by the Engineers.

Kellie Redmond made eight saves in net for Fisher, while RPI's Briana Earle and Hannah Clough split time for a combined three saves.

Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when the travel to Empire 8 rival Stevens Institute.
