The regular-season ended for the St. John Fisher College baseball program with a 9-3 loss at Alvernia College on Friday in a non-conference matchup between two of the top teams in the country. Fisher entered the game ranked 25th nationally, while Crusaders are ranked 15th.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 25-10 overall, while Alvernia improves to 35-7. Both Fisher and Alvernia will find out on Sunday night if they have earned at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Championship. Both teams are ranked No. 4 in their respective regions in the latest NCAA rankings.
The Cardinals gave up four runs in the first inning. Fisher got on the board in the fifth after freshman Chris Roeder drove in two runs with a single. Roeder went 3-for-4 to lead Fisher, while Steve Karnyski went 2-for-4.
