The St. John Fisher College baseball team suffered its first two losses of the season, as the Cardinals lost back-to-back 9-1 decisions to Widener College on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla.
Fisher (2-2), who entered the game with a team batting average of .435, mustered only three hits in both seven-inning contests.
In the first game, the Cardinals scored their only run in the first inning. After Ben Bostick hit a two-out double, senior Leo Fusilli sprayed a single to right.
Starting pitching Adam Pettinella was tagged with the loss. Sophomore-transfer Matt Mika pitched well in relief, allowing two runs over 5.2 innings of action.
In the nightcap, the Fisher bullpen held Widener scoreless over the final four innings. Zach Weaver and Ryan Trauger each tossed a scoreless inning, while Teddy Ruff pitched two scoreless frames. Junior-transfer Josh Cox suffered the loss on the mound.
Ben Ward singled in Chris Roeder for Fisher's lone run.
The Cardinals face Rose-Hulman University at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
