Baseball Moves To 2-0 With Win Over Franklin

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball team improved to 2-0 on the year with a 12-8 win over Franklin College of Indiana on Monday at the Russmatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Cardinals scored at least one run in all but one inning, thanks to 18 hits, including five doubles and two triples.

Fisher never trailed in the game.   The Cardinals scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. Franklin, who finished with 15 hits, pulled to within two runs on two different occasions, but never got any closer.

Both teams stranded 11 base runners.

Leadoff hitter Ben Ward went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Cardinals. Senior Ross Langevin also enjoyed a four-hit day and scored three runs. Steve Karnyski finished with three hits, two runs and two RBI, while Leo Fusilli drove in two runs on two hits.

Ben Bostick collected three RBI on two hits, while Sean Osterman doubled twice. Both players also stole two bases.

Freshman David Locke scored twice.

Freshman Justin D'Amato pitched five innings with six strikeouts to earn his first career win. Tim Sylvester allowed one run in the ninth, but earned the save.

Fisher will play two games against Widener College on Tuesday.
