Baseball Scores 14 In Season-Opening Win

The St. John Fisher College baseball team pounded out 19 hits and defeated St. Vincent College 14-5 in the season-opener for both team on Sunday night in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Cardinals, who scored in seven of the nine innings, jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and never looked back.

Sean Osterman led the way with four hits and four runs scored. He also drove in three runs on a three-run, inside-the-park home run that landed at the base of the fence in front of the 420-feet sign in left-center.

Leo Fusilli also scored four runs and finished with three hits, including a triple, while Matt Klock added three hits.   Ross Langevin knocked in three runs on two hits. Ben Ward and Steve Karnyski each picked up two hits and a run scored.

Brad Rush and David Locke each collected their first base hit at the collegiate level, while fellow freshman Chris Roeder scored twice.

Ben Bostick tripled in a run.

Tim Johnson pitched six solid innings to earn the win. The junior struck out six and allowed just two earned runs. Zach Weaver fanned five in two scoreless innings, while Peter Krysztof allowed one hit in the ninth inning.

Fisher will return to action at 1:30 p.m. on Monday and will host Franklin College.
