Women's Soccer Falls to Stevens in E8 Tournament

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team saw its season come to a close with a 3-1 loss to the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks today in the first round of the Empire 8 Championships.  Fisher ends the 2011 season with an 8-9 overall record. Stevens, currently ranked 19th in the nation, will advance to the Empire 8 Championship game to be played tomorrow.

Fisher came into the match with the fourth seed in the tournament, while Stevens held the first seed and earned hosting rights.

Kathleen Schuckers led the charge for the Ducks, with a hand in each of the three Stevens goals.  Schuckers finished with two goals and an assist, with her first goal proving to be the game winner.

Schuckers added her first tally of the day in the 58th minute when she put away a pass from Ann Heine to make the score 2-1.

Fisher's lone goal came in the first half after putting pressure on the Ducks with the majority of the chances in the opening minutes.  In the ninth minute, the Cardinals made use of their hard work, and took a 1-0 lead.  Chelsea Oberkrieser connected on a pass from Alexandra Rohloff to give the visitors the early advantage.

The one goal lead would hold going into halftime, but the Ducks were able to even the game 11 minutes into the second stanza. Schuckers, who also scored two goals on Fisher in their last meeting, sent a pass through the box and found teammate Lindsay Stoll.  Stoll was able to take an uncontested shot at Fisher keeper Jessica Plukas and tie the game at 1-1.

Schuckers added her second goal of the day, in the 72nd minute on a header that went in off the hands of Plukas.   The insurance goal would make the score 3-1, the game's final.

Plukas finished with two saves, while Kaitlin McClymont made eight stops for Stevens.

Oberkrieser tallied five shots to lead Fisher, with four of those on goal.
