St. John Fisher College women's tennis team
edged Hartwick College 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Fisher finishes the regular season 6-6 and 4-3 in the Empire 8, qualifying them for the Empire 8 Conference Championships.
In the singles match, Kathryn Pasier needed an extra point to clinch the 6-3, 7-5 win.
Elena Vahl and
Sania Zaki easily won 6-1, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-2 respectively. Kim Phimsipasom won at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-4 score.
The duos of Vahl and
Marissa Rotondo along with Pasier and
Jordan Brungard, won both matches in double play, coming out on top by a score of 8-2 and 8-0 respectively.
With Stevens defeat over Elmira College today paired with Fisher's win over Hartwick secured the Cardinals at least a 4
th-place regular season finish. Ithaca and Stevens remain undefeated in league play but that will not be the case by tomorrow as the two team's faceoff in Hoboken, NJ. Nazareth College is the other team that will qualify for the conference tournament. The Golden Flyers play Utica tomorrow and with a loss would have an identical conference record as Fisher, but Nazareth owns the head-to-head victory over the Cardinals.
Fisher will stay active while waiting for the conference tournament, playing next Saturday in the New York State Women's Tennis Championships, held at the Mendon Racquet Club.
